Women in Leg Casts - Client Sightings
Last Updated: April 19, 2000

Cast Techs in Colorado are clearly offering their customers something more exciting than the usual boring neon pink!

I don't know if the woman seated is expecting people to throw money in her hat so to speak, but I certainly would have parted with a few Bucks in return for such a pleasurable sighting!

The b&w shot was supplied by Client# 25, but I believe the original photographer is deceased. The woman looking in the window appears to have a nice long leg cast (LLC) but the source image is marginal.

A lovely example of a LLC that goes up nice and high! The source image is quite small, but responded well to enlargement & sharpening treatments.

This girl with her cute cheerleader outfit, and poised stance manages to turn an ordinary fiberglass SLC into an alluring picture. I have been hoping for clearer views of the other shot for some time now, but it would appear that this cutie is wearing a short dress with a big purple long leg cast!

Another classic example of a late '70s, or perhaps early '80s traditional short leg walking cast (SLWC) sighting.

Some delightful examples of traditional SLWC's

This Client has been very fortunate to capture some great cast sightings on film over the years, and is eager to trade with others.

We all know how frustrating it is spot an attractive woman in a cast and be unable to capture it on film. However, this Client has used his artistic talents instead, and been kind enough to share many of these with me. Although he is not specifically a cast enthusiast, you may want to check out his website at: The AmpArt Gallery

I am not sure if this is a public sighting or from a media source. Also, I am not a huge fan of casts with toeplates, but her stylish skirt and forearm crutches make this a noteworthy picture.

It seems like the long leg cast is not quite extinct. This sighting was made in the summer of 1997, so there is hope yet!

The B&W photo looks like it dates back a few years - perhaps to the 50's or early 60's? The color photos are of a girl who broke her leg playing soccer.

What a pity that our intrepid fellow cast enthusiast has not taken a full view in the first photo. I don't think the girl in the second (from left) photo is the same person given the dates on the source images.

As we are all well aware, traditional walking casts with integral rubber heels are a rare treat these days. However, even rarer than them are their predecessor - the walking cast with a 'walking iron'. Until a client very kindly sent me these examples, I had only ever seen one in an old textbook.

Another SLWC sighting from years gone by.

Traditional plaster SLWC's with rubber heels appear to still be in use in some Eastern European countries, although I am not sure about their placement of the walking heel so far to the back?

Although rather blurred, and despite attempts to enhance with various image editing tools; I have decided to include this picture anyway, because it is such a superb example of a traditional SLWC.
